Whether its a discussion on sports, politics, or even our jobs almost everything comes down to "the average" or the probability of something happening. It’s all about data. And while I’ve always been a fan of data driven decisions, its become overwhelming. We’re living in a world where there’s so much data its impossible to comprehend it all.
But I believe were at a tipping point with data. We finally have the means with machine learning and AI to comprehend the information.
Who would have thought this consumer electronic would change everything
In the 60’s and 70’s we saw the explosion of personal computing. Just as in the 60’s and 70’s the explosion of personal computers changed society, so will Artificial and Augmented intelligence. We finally have the tools to understand these massive amounts of unstructured data and the people who know how to use it will gain immensely.
The Creative and the Businessman
Typically I believe there's two groups that do very well from change, the businessman and the creators. The Businessman, those that understand how to use data, decipher the signal from the noise and turn that into value creation will be well positioned to profit. During the computing revolution I think of all the businessman who took offline ideas and brough them online. Similar to what Jeff Bezos did for Amazon or Mark Cuban did for broadcast.com.
The other group that will likely do even better is the creators, the ones who make systems for understanding that data. In that case I think of Bill Gates with Windows or Larry Page with Google.
If you want to simply understand how to make statistical data more impactful in your life or you want to create the systems that will understand data this is the starting point for you.
